Doctor Strange, the latest Marvel character to make his big screen debut, has been confirmed to feature in upcoming sequel Thor: Ragnarok.
Benedict Cumberbatch’s superhero will appear in a lead role alongside Chris Hemsworth’s Norse god and Mark Ruffalo’s Hulk in the anticipated sequel which boasts as huge a cast as fans have come to expect with new Marvel films.
The character was rumoured to be appearing after set photos showing Hemsworth and Loki actor Tom Hiddleston in New York surfaced online courtesy of the film’s director, Taikia Waititi (Hunt for the Wilderpeople); Hemsworth could be seen holding a slip of paper embossed with the address of Cumberbatch’s alter ego Scott Strange.
Disney craftily revealed the news on its official fan club page with the following plot synopsis: “Thor: Ragnarok in November brings together Thor, the Hulk, and Doctor Strange to face off against intergalactic baddies both familiar and new.”
Sherlock actor Cumberbatch’s appearance shouldn’t be too much of a surprise for any viewer who stayed behind for Doctor Strange‘s end credits; Thor was shown visiting the character in his Sanctum Sanctorum where he attempted to enlist his help in bringing Loki back to Asgard.
